Where once you were the comma Joining the run-on fragments of our separate lives
Thrown together by chance
We became an odd narrative
In our attempts to fulfill the underlying promise of our individual parts
Creating a seemingly sound structure
Encasing a plot that neither of us quite understood
We were like a free-flowing free writing assignment
Crafted from a stream of consciousness
Making it up as we went along
Until the pieces no longer made sense
Now you are something I struggle each day to define
An ellipsis I never expected and never planned
The pregnant pause without an end in sight
A transition between journeys
Two segments once again running in different directions
